In this study, dog training techniques were reviewed and their advantages and disadvantages were evaluated. From the literature review, it was identified that there are techniques that use positive reinforcement and others that use punishment, each with its pros and cons. Techniques using positive reinforcement, such as clicker training, were found to be more effective in correcting unwanted behaviors and improving the dog-owner relationship, although they may require more time and patience. On the other hand, techniques that use punishment, such as the punishment collar and electrical stimulation, can be effective in correcting unwanted behaviors, but can also cause pain and stress to the dog and damage the dog-owner relationship. The importance of selecting the appropriate technique based on the needs and personality of the dog, as well as the preferences and abilities of the owner, was highlighted. In addition, the need for further studies was identified to assess the long-term effects of these techniques and to identify best practices in dog training. As specified, this study provides valuable information for dog owners and trainers in the selection of appropriate training techniques to improve the dog-owner relationship and correct unwanted behaviors.
